چکیده فارسی :

Investigating the high school English books in Iran and interviewing with some of English teachers and students shows that among four main language skills, reading can be considered the most important one for Iranian students. Improving reading comprehension ability can be the main purpose for teaching English in Iran's high schools. So seeking for more useful and applicable methods to improve this ability seems to be necessary and essential. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of Teaching Translation Strategies on reading comprehension ability of high school students in Iran. To do this, 90 students who were studying in grade 4 of high school were selected as samples. They were divided randomly to control and experimental groups. The experimental group received instruction according to translation strategies. Analysis of collected data indicated that those who learnt translation strategies, scored better in the post-test. As a result, teaching translation strategies can improve the reading comprehension ability in Iranian high school students.
